Today the Russian band Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years in prison for entering a church and playing a thirty second punk rock song – “Mother of God, Drive Putin Out”. This was a protest against Putin’s government and its unhealthy ties to the church. Word is that these young women, two of whom are mothers of small children, are being sent to a Siberian penal colony to work out their sentences.
We are in total solidarity with Pussy Riot and with the thousands of artists and citizens around the world who denounce this decision.
