Ongoing research from the BBMC project Quantum Computing in NEOS VR, from Liz Solo’s webpage:
“I’m working with different Artificial Intelligence technologies and machine learning programs in order to 1) see what they can do; and 2) develop a virtual artist who composes work that contains some of the creative “DNA” of my own work–a hybrid virtual version of my artist self. In this case, I’m trying to create a virtual songwriter.
So, I’ve been messing around with different A.I. software. Some of these (pretty remarkable) programs learn by reading the Internet, and the process involves a fair amount of “training” of the AIs. Hours of experimentation are involved, followed by the editing of the many hits and the just as many misses. The process has become a kind of collaboration — between the artist and the AI, and then, when I started incorporating the influences of other artists, between the artist, AI, and the memory of other artists. It is important to acknowledge that when we are working with Artificial Intelligence, it is always a collaboration of some kind. Artificial Intelligences can’t learn or even exist within a void, and all of their programming comes from the human being, making A.I.s, in essence, of us.

This is research for my latest collaboration with Dr. Jeremy Turner–we are each creating NPCs (non-Player Characters) that think using a quantum computer. Our virtual beings will make decisions based on the input of users in a virtual space. My NPC is the Songstress, an AI entity that composes prophetic lyrics in my own style. Before I begin working with the quantum computer, I am exploring AI-based language processing, and experimenting, in part, with colleague Steve DiPaola, at SFU.
